Montague Township has a Shared Service Agreement with Vernon Township for the Animal Control Officer. Lost and stray animals can be reported to the number above.

Dead animals in the road should be reported to the Municipal Building at 973-293-7300.

Animal Shelter

Location

Shelter Public Hours
  • Monday: 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday through Friday: 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Saturday: 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon

Donations

The animal shelter accepts and welcomes donations of items for the animals such as cat food (wet and dry), dog food (wet and dry), kitty litter and towels, blankets, or sheets. All donations can be dropped off directly at the Vernon Township Animal Shelter. Thank you!

Dog Licenses are due every January. Owners of a dog found to be unlicensed after March 31 shall be required to pay a late fee of $5.00 per month until a license is obtained. Proof of rabies vaccination and whether neutered or not are required to be provided each year in order to obtain a license. The rabies vaccination must be good through November 1, and are given each year in the lower level of the Municipal Building.

Licenses can be obtained by mail by providing the following:

  1. Appropriate fee
  2. Stamped, self-addressed envelope
  3. Proof of rabies vaccination (Must be good through November 1st)
  4. Proof of spay/neuter
  5. Completed Form (click here for form)
